Piano in the Rain (EDM Chillout)

This track was a bit of a challenge. I stumbled upon an interesting piano phrase that Udio generated and wanted to see if I could convince the system to transition it into an electronic dance track. It ended up slowly converting the piano piece into what I would consider EDM Chillout. I really liked the result, but the final track had a few issues that needed to be addressed.

First, for some reason, Udio tends to produce distortion artifacts in acoustic piano pieces. I'm not sure if that is a result of its training set or if it happens during the mastering stage at Udio, but it is fairly prominent. To tame that, I needed to do some spectral editing. This removed some of the high end during the intro, so to get some sparkle back, I decided to add some rain at the beginning, which ended up motivating the title.

Udio also had the stereo imaging completely wrong, so I needed to recenter everything. It ended up not being perfect, and it also limited the possibilities to widen the track, but I am quite happy with the result. Additionally, I needed to change a few piano notes during the second phrase of the track. I used the RipX DAW for that purpose.

Finally, I needed to remix the end of the track because Udio does not allow tracks longer than 4:22. This was a bit of a bummer because Udio came up with a really good idea towards the end. Unfortunately, I had to take that out to get a consistent ending. I also moved the vocals around a bit to get more consistency, added a few effects, and remastered everything.

The track is longer than Udio allows. If anyone is interested in how to do that, leave a comment, and I might make a tutorial video.
