I Made My Studio Headphones Listen to AirPods

In this video, I demonstrate how to repurpose Apple AirPods as a head tracking device for studio headphones, combining the best of both worlds. By using simple silicone ear hooks and making a few adjustments to the AirPods' settings, I show you how to create a cost-effective solution for implementing head tracking in your music production environment, particularly useful for working with immersive audio like Dolby Atmos.

This setup works with any Apple earbuds containing the H2 chip, including the AirPods Pro, AirPods 4, and certain Beats models. I also discuss the Headitude application, which converts the AirPods' orientation data into OSC messages that can be sent to your DAW or Dolby Atmos renderer. While there are commercial head tracking solutions available, this DIY approach offers an accessible alternative for those who already own AirPods and want to enhance their studio headphones with head tracking capabilities.
