Voyage Audio Spatial Mic Review

In this video, I review the Voyage Audio Spatial Mic, a versatile second-order Ambisonics microphone with 8 capsules. I discuss the mic's technical details, build quality, and its ability to function as a mono, stereo, or surround sound microphone, making it suitable for various applications, including Dolby Atmos productions. Throughout the video, I demonstrate how to set up the Spatial Mic in Reaper, using the included Spatial Mic Converter plugin to convert the 8-capsule signal into different formats, such as Ambisonics, mid-side, and virtual microphones with customizable pickup patterns and widths.

I conduct several sound tests, comparing the Spatial Mic's performance to my Lewitt LCT 440 Pure microphone, both with and without post-processing. The results showcase the Spatial Mic's capabilities, including its ability to create immersive binaural audio experiences. Despite some minor issues with noise levels and sensitivity to plosives, I am impressed by the Spatial Mic's overall usability and versatility. While its price tag may be steep for those solely interested in its ability to mimic other microphones, I highly recommend the Spatial Mic for anyone seeking a comprehensive spatial audio solution that looks and functions like a regular microphone.
